Alex is a Development Practitioner with experience gained both in the development and corporate sectors. She started her professional journey in the mid nineties at a national footwear manufacturing company where she carved her teeth in the Human Resources field. Over the years she would serve in various organizations where she enhanced and sharpened her skills in Human Resources Management, Change and Transformation Management, Strategic Leadership, Project Management, Fundraising and Donor Relations, Monitoring and Evaluation, Policy Development, Financial Management and Corporate Governance.
Alex suffered bilateral auditory nerve damage at the prime of her career which rendered her deaf. Her disability and economic empowerment journey thereafter led to the establishment of her company, the Deaf Empowerment Firm which she is using as a tool to enable inclusion and economic participation of D/deaf people. She is passionate about the empowerment of people with disabilities and ensuring an enabling environment so they can thrive and become active participants in the economy. She believes in the advocacy of the course of people with disabilities so as to protect their human rights and enable lives lived in dignity. Alex serves on various boards, National and International, of organizations of and for people with disabilities and is a member of the Presidential Working Group on Disability.
